The box office and administrative offices of the The Arts Association of East Alabama are housed in the historic Opelika Train Depot.
About
The Opelika Train Depot was originally constructed in 1922. It is thought to be the fourth and final construction of a station here in Opelika. It is built of two tone Flemish bond brick with stone and brick rowlock belt coursings; slate hip roof with a metal canopy supported by chains and metal brackets.
Today you can still view the original terrazzo floors, the 18 foot high ceilings, four foot high wainscot, the stamped-tin ceilings, and the tall, wood frame double hung windows with transoms above.
The ticket office still retains the bars; and one ticket window opens into what was originally one of the two large waiting rooms. Also in the ticket office is the original built-in, heavy wooden drawers. From the other large waiting room there are doors that open to the concreted area where passengers boarded the trains. From here it is possible to view the old coal chute.
Event Rental
Originally one of two large waiting rooms at Opelika’s historic train station, the beautifully restored Harris Conference Room is available to the community at nominal charge for a wide variety of meetings and receptions.
