The Forgotten Carols is a story about, Constance, a dedicated nurse, who is too practical to be bothered by Christmas, but gets assigned to care for an older gentleman with alleged psychiatric tendencies over the holidays. This unlikely patient, John, is nothing like the “senile crazy person” she expected. Instead John’s warmth and spunky kindness break through Constance’s iron-clad exterior as he walks her through the untold carols of the more “forgotten” characters in the Christmas story and guides the nurse to the Christmas carol waiting to be sung inside her own heart.

It's a special Fourth of July edition of Community Focus as East Alabama Art's Kyle Gassiott visits FDR's Little White House in Warm Springs, GA.

On today's show we get a special tour of the house and grounds with park guide Steve Lane and later talk with senior historian David Wollner of the Roosevelt Institute. If you've never been to the Little White House it's definitely worth the trip. The museum boasts a collection of artifacts from Roosevelt's life and presidencies that open up both the public and private life of FDR. You see the car the president designed and drove (complete with dings in the bumper), many of his personal letters and correspondence, and just a sampling of the many walking canes sent to him from around the world.

On today's show we get a special tour of the house and grounds with park guide Steve Lane and later talk with senior historian David Woolner of the Roosevelt Institute. If you've never been to the Little White House it's definitely worth the trip. The museum boasts a collection of artifacts from Roosevelt's life and presidency that opens up both the public and private life of FDR. You see the car the president designed and drove (complete with dings in the bumper), many of his personal letters and correspondence, and just a sampling of the many walking canes sent to him from around the world.
But it's entering the house itself that feels like walking back in time. The small six-room home reflects the architecture and design of a president who believed in being both accessible to his constituents and living like them. The accommodations are well apportioned of course, but not particularly ostentatious. It's the home of man who greatly valued his books, the picturesque view of the Georgia landscape, and most definitely his therapy in the natural springs in the area. In many ways it's a fitting place of happiness and relaxation, where the president lived his final hours.
The house is significant in many other ways particular to FDR's many economic programs and policies, which you'll hear more about in our interview with David Woolner below.

We hope you join us for a staycation to the Little White House for our presidential Fourth of July!
