The Siberian State Symphony Orchestra

  • Opelika Center for the Perfroming Arts 1700 Lafayette Pkwy Opelika (map)

For those of a certain age, “being sent to Siberia” conjures images of the cruel and isolated hard-labor camps of the Soviet era. Turns out that Siberia actually has a vibrant cultural scene and connections to a wider world of the performing arts – and they’re sending it to us! Home-based in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, the Siberian State Symphony Orchestra, led by Russian-American conductor, Vladimir Lande,  performs in the remarkably-designed Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Concert Hall, regularly showcasing important international guest artists and conductors. Do you think it’s coincidence that the orchestra, on an eight-week tour of North America, would choose to land in the Deep South and Florida during January? They know real cold, and we just think we do…
